Amy was one of my first best friends in Gary.  Amy and I would walk to Velt everyday.  We use to go to Lee's Chicken Shack for lunch to get some necks and hot links.  Who didn't go to Lee's Chicken Shack?  Amy was a hard worker.  When she passed away, she worked for the Post Office.  I remember when she married Chester Mayfield, the hunk of Velt, that played sports and was handsome.  All the girls were after him, but my girl Amy got him.  Now my best friend is gone home.  She has been gone for a while, but I can't forget her smile.  Amy was a very quiet, soft spoken person.  I miss you.  God has an angel.  Vicki Owens (Lomax)

Sheila was my friend since before Lincoln Elememtary School.  We traveled the roads of discovery, puberty, dating, music and college together.  We also shared some moments during our early careers when we both worked in Chicago.  Sheila accomplished much with her professional life in systems development and analysis.  She always had a great love for her family and her pets.  She was a good friend, and she is sorely missed.   One of the best from the Class of 1972.

I knew Janet Perry from Beckman Jr. High School, she was so funny and cute.  She was a tomboy like myself. We played volleyball, and other sports at school. Hey does any one remember Mr. Skye the principal of Beckman Jr. High?  We gave him a run for the money. This was the first time they allowed girls to wear pants. Did any one get tried of wearing dresses all the time?  So, the school agreed and history was made at that time. Now all young ladies are able to wear pants. So we became a part of a new generation that we were able to wear pants. Janet was a friend that got along with everyone, she had a beautiful smile, a crazy girl, nothing ever made her upset .  We use to dance in white socks on the gummy floor, or turn flips to become a cheerleader. We went to Jr High with the Jackson Five. I use to watch them when I walked by them playing baseball in the back of Velt. Well my best friend, you are gone, and you are truly missed by every one that loved you.   Vicki Owens/Lomax

From Patricia Brooks-Shadwick on January 9th, 2012

I didn't know Ronnie well in school.  However, his contribution to our community in his adult life was unduplicated.  His bus ministry and love for the less fortunate was so sincere. He always had a smile and a helping hand for those in need.   He had a gift for this life and he used it well.  We miss him.
